Morphology:
A robust perennial herb. The underground rhizome is dull brown on
surface, bright yellow with in. The stem is woody, erect and
multi-branched. The leaves are divided into many (15) small, bright
green leaflets which are covered by hairs. The flowers are small,
lavender-violet and arranged in spikes. The fruit is a small, brown pod.
3-4 kidney shaped seeds. |

Home remedies:
1. In cough and dyspnoea, its small piece should be chew.
2. Chewing of Madhuyashthi is also beneficial in hoarseness of voice or some
irritation in throat.
3. In baldness, hair should be washed with its decoction.
4. In wound, medicated Ghee, prepared with Madhuyashti should be applied on that
site.
Summary:
This is useful for many respiratory disorders as well as cough. Yastimadhu helps
to increase the appetite by facilitating proper evacuation of stools. This herb
has a special action on kapha, which helps in expectoration of the accumulated
kapha. It is mainly used as an expectorant and antitussive agent. It has shown
anti-inflammatory activity. De-glycorrhiza liquorice extract is now are
important substance for treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. A strong
decoction makes a good laxative for children and may also help to reduce fever.
Add licorice to other medicines to make them more palatable.
Many research teams have demonstrate brain cholinesterase-inhibiting activity,
hypocholesterolaemic and antidepressant-like activity of Glycyrrhiza glabra. It
alleviates the asthamatic features. It provides antioxidant effects and can be
frequently and safely used to treat inflammatory and allergic diseases.
