For Practitioners

Clinical detail, sourcing and the modern evidence base.

A working summary for Vaidyas and integrative practitioners — covering effect on Agni and dhatus, practical dosage, quality control and links to the modern research literature.

Effect on Agni & Dhatu

Mildly Agni-deepana without aggravating Pitta. Primarily nourishes Rasa, Rakta and Shukra dhatu; Snigdha–Guru qualities make it Brimhana (nourishing) and Balya (strengthening), especially for depleted tissues.

Dosage & Forms

Churna (powder): 3–6 g/day with warm water, ghee or honey. Kwatha (decoction): 50–100 ml. Ghana Vati: 1–2 tablets twice daily. Yashti-ghrita and lepa for external use. Always titrate to Agni and condition.

Quality Control & Sourcing

Roots sourced from authenticated Glycyrrhiza glabra cultivars, identity-tested by macro- and microscopy. Batches screened for heavy metals, pesticide residues and microbial load — manufactured under GMP-certified Ayurvedic pharmacy standards.

Evidence-Based Information

Glycyrrhizin and flavonoids show documented gastroprotective, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective activity in modern literature.

Frequently Asked

Common questions, answered.

How long does it take to work?+

Mild symptoms like throat irritation or acidity often ease within a few days. For deeper Rasayana benefits — sleep, immunity, skin — allow 4–8 weeks of consistent use under guidance.

Can I stop my regular medication?+

Yes — once you experience consistent benefit and your symptoms have settled, your regular medication can often be tapered and stopped. This should be done in consultation with your treating doctor or Vaidya, not abruptly on your own.

Is this herb safe for children?+

Yes. In small, age-appropriate doses (typically as part of a formulation) Yashtimadhu has been used safely in paediatric Ayurveda for cough and throat complaints. Use under a Vaidya’s guidance for children.

Can I take it long-term?+

Yes — Yashtimadhu is largely safe for long-term use at the doses recommended in classical Ayurveda, and is in fact considered a Rasayana (rejuvenative) meant for sustained use. A practitioner can guide you on the most suitable form and duration.
